Abstract:
Tourism and travel is one of the largest growth industries in the world (UNWTO Highlights 2019). In 2019, international tourist arrivals increased by 6% compared to the previous year to reach 1.401 billion, and are expected to attain 1.8 billion by 2030. Tourism’s role with respect to the worldwide gross domestic product (GDP) in 2018 was circa 6 per cent and was responsible for the employment of 1 in every 10 people out of the overall number of direct and indirect jobs worldwide (UNWTO Highlights 2019). Its average contribution to GDP is c. 10%. The tourist destination represents the link that unites and maintains all sectors of the tourism industry, namely transport, accommodation, food, and entertainment, being a complex and specific item for tourism (Heath, Wall 1992).
