Tourist Service Quality vs. Overtourism – Polish Example

Abstract:

People all over the world can afford trips to different part of the world. On Internet it is easy to find chip flight or a budget hotel. Lots of place which were impossible to visit 15-20 years ago, now are visited by many tourist. The most famous places are full of people, not only during vacation and different holidays. So it can be observed rapid development in tourism and tourist services. Unfortunately with this development another phenomenon is also observed, i.e. overtourim. It means that tourism brings work, fame and profit for local people but at the same time it brings crowd, noise, high prices, environmental pollution etc. It is therefore necessary to consider how to make such places feel the least negative impact of tourism on their daily functioning, but also to meet the requirements of tourists, moreover, how to make tourism sustainable. The aim of the paper was to analyze the impact caused an increase in the number of tourists who visited several popular tourist destinations in southern Poland and quality of tourist services offered in these places. The analysis was conducted in form of survey from the point of view of visiting tourists. The Importance/Performance analysis was used. The analysis allowed to see if tourists noted problem of overtourism in research places and to analyze the level of quality of tourist services.
