Toward a Reconceptualization of Organizational Culture in IS research

Abstract:

Due to the growth of failure of Information system (IS) implementation, human, social and organizational dimensions of IS become more and more solicited to understand the phenomena (Avisson et Myers, 1995). In this stream, organizational culture has been detected as success key factor to understand implementation process. An extensive literature review of the two fields of research, reveal that IS researches deeply fail to recognize the profusion of organizational culture concept. We found that when the concept of culture is used, an implicit dichotomy separate researches in IS: deterministic approaches of IS adopt a consensual definition of culture, when interpretative ones adopt a fragmentary one. This article is then aimed to have a better understanding of the concept of organizational culture, and then to enhance fertilization and mutual enrichment between IS implementation researches at one hand; and organizational culture at the other hand.
