Toward an Approach to Technology-Enabled Social Entrepreneurship: A Qualitative Exploration

Abstract:

Social entrepreneurship has the ability to resolve communities’ challenges, such as intergenerational poverty, job creation, acceleration of economic mobility and equitable economic development. However, notwithstanding its potential, many social entrepreneurs encounter barriers when adopting technological innovations, including financial constraints, limited technical expertise, and resistance to change. These challenges restrict their ability to optimize operations, scale impact, and create sustainable value for communities. The primary objectives of this study are to explore the challenges that social entrepreneurs face in integrating technological innovations into their businesses and to evaluate how these challenges impact the successful implementation of technological solutions. The research will employ qualitative method specializing exploration and explanation case study which will involve observation and face-to-face interview. The purposive-sampling technique will be adopted and the sample size will be up to fifteen social entrepreneurs in West Malaysia.  Technological advancements not only to improvise their businesses, but may enhance social impact in addressing societal needs. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by social entrepreneurs and offer actionable strategies for overcoming them. The discoveries may enhance their ability to leverage technology for their businesses and social good. This work introduces the proposed study on social entrepreneurship enabled by technology, serving as a foundation for ongoing research.
