Towards a Common Gulf Co-operation Council E-government Metadata Standard

Abstract:

The E-government initiative is a recent innovation and has just taken root in many Arab countries. As in other countries around the world, governments of Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries are in the process of developing their e-government projects. The concept of e-government is not just posting government information and services on the internet. It requires addressing issues related to culture change, leadership support, security, privacy, and so forth. On the other hand, Information Architecture (AI) issues, including the development of nationwide metadata and controlled vocabularies to be used within an e-government metadata standard, need to be implemented to make government information and services easy for people to find and use.
