Towards Human-Machine Partnership in Strategic Management

Abstract:

Increasing capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and other cognitive technologies allow humans to collaborate with computers as associates on a scale never before. This, by contrast, implies a new level of challenge for the analysis of human-machine collaboration in various business domains. Accordingly, this paper discusses the human-machine partnership in the process of strategy formulation and implementation. For this purpose, a deep analysis of current and evolving capacities of AI is provided. In addition, a thorough review of existing research is conducted. To embrace AI’s promise strategic management is to be redesigned around both humans as well as machines capabilities. This requires human-machine integration that resembles a shifting division of work between business executives and AI. To drive research forward in this area further investigation into human-machine interactions is suggested. Due to ongoing applications of AI-enabled systems in strategic management, the subject of new set of skills on demand among business executives would also benefit from further research.
