Transformational Leadership and Employee Creativity. A Case Study of Romanian Companies

Abstract:

The present paper is focused on the implications of transformational leadership on creativity. Employee creativity is extremely important when it comes to organizational sustainable development and it needs to be fostered and encouraged at all organizational levels. A study was carried out on a sample of 94 employees from companies located in Maramureș County based on four variables related to transformational leadership and their influence on creativity. The findings revealed that there is a statistically valid link between transformational leadership and creativity, but in the case of the participants in this study, the link, while positive, it is not very strong. We found that idealized influence and inspirational motivation have the biggest influence on employee creativity and that creativity is not widely spread in companies in Maramureș. Also, the employees that took part in our study have generated high scores in all the variables associated with transformational leadership and contribute to the formation of an organizational environment based on communication, support and motivation towards creativity.
