Transition to Service-Oriented Enterprise: SOA Maturity and Enterprise Architecture

Abstract:

The aim of any enterprise within the knowledge-based society is to become intelligent and to obtain advantages on the market through innovative approaches. The paper suggests a modern solution to economic organizations in order to increase their agility and economical development in the knowledge-based society. The solution is represented by the transition to service-oriented enterprise. The service-oriented enterprise requires a superior level of maturity of the service-oriented architecture (SOA) within the organization, along with the creation of an agile architeture. Thus, the first part of the paper points out the stages of SOA maturity within the organization, analyses the adoption of SOA according to several factors and identifies the major changes necessary to align the organization to SOA. The second part of the paper proposes an architectural model (based on SOA, Cloud Computing, Business Process Management and Case Management) for the service-oriented enterprise that eliminates the gap between the business level and the information system level, allows interoperability between business partners and increases enterprise agility.
