Ubiquitous Library (UL) Usage among University Students in Malaysia: A Descriptive Analysis of U-Pustaka as UL Services

Abstract:

This study attempted to examine students' perceptions toward the use of the ubiquitous library in Malaysia. Attention was given to two variables, namely, the use of Infostructure (Portal), and the use of Infrastructure (services) of UL. A Likert-type instrument consisting of 21 items was designed to collect information about students' perceptions toward the use of u-Pustaka as UL. The samples of this study were 203 students enrolled in the hybrid programme in management at a university in Malaysia. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The overall results suggest that students had medium perceptions toward the use of the u-Pustaka. The results are significant to understand that how students access, use and apply u-Pustaka services in the modern age of technological and organizational innovations. The results are significant towards promotions and marketing strategy and may contribute to the future enhancement of services, internet connectivity, payment methods, collections development, and Union Catalogue development programs to improve u-Pustaka in Malaysia. Implications for practice are discussed and recommendations are made for future research.
