User Awareness of Social Media Security: The Public sector framework

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to examine the social media security among users from public sector organizations (Educational sector), Also researchers attempt to find factors affecting user awareness of social media security in this sector .This study employed an exploratory quantitative research because the subject matter is not clearly defined and researchers needed to determine the best research design and data collection method, as well as examine the hypotheses and proposition developed in the current study. Researchers also chose the quantitative method in order to test these hypotheses that propose a link between factors associated with social media, information security and user awareness. Using convenience sampling collected of 338 social media users in Bahrain (selected randomly), including students and staff members of the University of Bahrain, as well as individuals from outside of the University of Bahrain. The findings reveal that : Advantage Use and User's attitude has a strong influence on user awareness. And User Knowledge has an indirect effect in intention. Also researchers find that the respondents with a field of study related to information security have a higher awareness that is reflected in their intention. Finally Intention alone may not be highly capable of instructing the level of awareness a user have in regards to social media security. This study need to consider /add more variables to balance the variable of intention .Also, researcher in the future are recommended to study the subject further, more analysis is required in order to examine the supposed factors more in depth. Furthermore, the sample size should be expanded, because the time frame was too short (2 semesters) and it is may be effected the result obtained. At the policy-maker level, it would be helpful for raising awareness about needed policies and regulations that governs the protection of citizen and state information. In order to implement the needed programs that can achieve a higher level of awareness for citizens and employees.
