Value Creation through the Utilisation of Information Technology

Abstract:

Information, energized by technology, is now is the most important strategic resource that a business must manage if it is to succeed. Guidance to business leaders on strategy, competitive advantage and value creation is readily available from a variety of theories and frameworks from the industrial organization, resource, and structure perspectives. However, there are few that adequately integrated with information systems theory to present a view that reflects the realities of the contemporary ICT powered business environment.. This paper seeks to review and integrate the more prominent value strategy theories with those from information systems into a coherent Virtual Value Creation framework that describes how business leaders can strategically use information more effectively. An illustrative case study of a medium sized Australian manufacturing enterprise is provided.
