Vigor at Work, How Employees’ Perception of Working Hours Influence Their Work Satisfaction

Abstract:

Work intensification has risen the working hours for employees. It challenges the balance of time allocation between work, family, and recreation. Using dispositional theory, we examine how employees perceived work hours and its implication to their work satisfaction. The work hour variable is elaborate into four dimensions, including discipline,  incentive, knowledge, and commitment. Based on a survey of 170 employees, we conclude that work hours have a linear influence to work satisfaction with a fair intensity.  However, out of four dimensions of the work hour perception variable, only incentive and knowledge dimensions that have a significant correlation with work satisfaction. We conclude that employees who are bounded by their work setting would have a fairly strong work satisfaction when they perceived their working hours positively.
