Abstract:

The success of blockchain technology in the field of cryptocurrencies has achieved considerable success, but its potential in other sectors is still unexplored. This study aims at analyzing the current state of the art of blockchain technology in the supply chain. In particular, the strengths and weaknesses of the technology within supply chains are highlighted. In addition, possible future developments of blockchain application are analyzed with the integration of new emerging technologies in order to automate processes management following the Industry 4.0 plans. Finally, research ideas on environmental, economic and social sustainability regarding the use of the technology for the supply chain are provided.
