What Decides about the Ability of the Academic City to Keep Educational Migrants? – The Case of Opole Academic Centre

Abstract:

Cities can benefit almost exclusively from the fact of functioning there higher education institutions, although those benefits generated by new-coming students seem to be no less important. From the point of long-term growth of academic cities view, their ability to absorb graduated students is the most desirable, even though students presence during studies can generate positive economic consequences as well. Questions are raised about the reasons that new-coming students take under the consideration when they decide about the place of residence after graduating, and what makes them to settle in academic centre? In this paper basing on the research results, which were conducted in one of the academic cities in Poland, an attempt was taken to answer questions mentioned before.
