What Hides under the Sustainable Agriculture Umbrella? A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract:

Statistical evidence shows that agriculture is a key element in the climate change puzzle. Even if it is a basic activity for ensuring food security, rural jobs and the stability needed by the rural society, the agriculture was rather overlooked when the need of embracing more sustainable practices started to surface. Research stands on the same grounds, studies regarding sustainable agriculture came in the interest of the scientists later than sustainability issues regarding other economic activities. A comprehensive analysis on the sustainable agriculture topic was conducted on a selection of article abstracts which appeared in six highly respected journals, in the 2000 – 2018 period, using bibliometric techniques and graphical visualizations of word networking elicited by the Vosviewer software. The conclusions show that the sustainable agriculture field is an offering one, with multiple research opportunities, since only 7.34% of the published articles that were included in the analysis approach this topic.
