Why People from Indonesia in Taiwan using Facebook for Their Social Networking Sites

Abstract:

This study aims to utilise use and gratification theory and risk variable on the social network sites (SNS) usage of Indonesian people in Taiwan. The questionnaire is distributed by two methods, i.e., online and offline. The respondents obtained are 63 persons from offline and 58 peoples from online. The structural equation model is applied to data analysis. The findings show that stylish variable and disclosure variable statistically significant to impact the SNS usage. Then, it seems that the Facebook nowaday is not a symbol status anymore. It becomes the essential need instrument in connecting other people. In addition, the internet risk perception statistically has a positive effect on risk variable. Besides, the risk variable has a negative relationship with SNS usage. The study also finds that the risk has moderating effect in both models. However, these findings are not statistically significant. There is some possible explanation for this evidence. Probably, people Indonesia in Taiwan beliefe that there is a good law protecting their activities using the internet. Finally, this study has the contribution to enhancing the Indonesian government policy. The goverment of Indonesia could use the SNS to  give services needed for the Indonesian people abroad. The information or anything related protection to the people could be distributed through this SNS.
