Women’s Health in Precarious Work: A Review of Existing and Conceptual Framework for Future Research

Abstract:

The growth of interest in research on women employment in the last two decades is largely due to the spread of modern information technologies (the Internet, artificial intelligence, software, etc.), which led to large-scale changes in the labour market, providing women with additional opportunities for precarious work, but, at the same time, increased the requirements for the professional level of labour market participants. In addition, the large-scale changes and dynamism of the modern economy leave their imprint on the institution of family and marriage, the role of women and men in the family is increasingly blurred, women take on the responsibility of providing the family on an equal footing with men. Competition in the labour market leads to an increase in the number of employees working on a temporary basis, under flexible conditions of employment, which is often associated with a decrease in their income level and the emergence of health problems. The article is based on an analysis of 120 publications of Russian and foreign authors included in one of the bases: Web of Science, Google Scholar, RINC, which discuss issues of precarious work, and its impact on the physical and psychosocial health of women. The reasons for the negative impact of precarious work on women's health are analyzed. The results of the analysis show the state of scientific knowledge of the context of the impact of non-standard forms of employment on women's health
