Work-Life Balance and Organizational Commitment: Perception of Married Female Academics

Abstract:

Discussion is ongoing on the concept of work-life balance (WLB) because of increasing in the rate at which women are entering into the workforce. A notable gap of little or no empirical study exists in literature on the effect of this concept on female faculty in Nigeria context. This study, however, seeks to investigate how WLB impact on organizational commitment of female academics in selected private universities in Nigeria. Using a sample of 205 married female faculty (with characteristics of mother and wife) from the selected private universities in southwest Nigeria. Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were used to analyze the data gathered through selfadministered questionnaire. The finding shows a positive and significant influence of WLB on the commitment of the female faculty to their organisations. Implications and area for further studies were discussed.
