YouTube: A Medium for Majority Foreign Students to Acquire the Academic Knowledge in China

Abstract:

This study illuminates the common problems that the majority of foreign students face while studying in China. Such as the language barrier, especially if their study program is in the English language. Considering the availability of lecturers with high precision of English speaking. Pushing students to acquire the academic knowledge by watching the pertinent educational videos on the YouTube. The second, restriction on the YouTube and virtual private network (VPN) to access it. Such prohibitions aid difficulties for the majority of foreign students to acquire the academic knowledge. Based on the convenient sampling technique and using a self-designed questionnaire. The data is collected from 5245 foreign students studying in 20 Chinese universities. The study results are analyzed with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Analysis of Moment (AMOS) v.23.  The language barrier (β=.243, p<0.05) pushes the majority of foreign students to access the YouTube EDU, support H: 1. The VPN constraint (β=-.180, p<0.05) hinders the majority of foreign students access to YouTube EDU, support H: 2. And, the interaction effect of the VPN constraint with the language barrier and the access to YouTube EDU (β=-.300, p<0.05) support the narrative of this study. Studying in wonderful China is excellent to excel in the learning and experience. Although, facilitation by the concerned stakeholders to foreign students to access the YouTube site will aid in their purpose. To acquire the academic knowledge, considering the language barrier falling into their way to study in China.
