Blended Learning Macroeconomic Course. A Methodology Proposal to Face COVID-19 Pandemic Situation in Mexico

Abstract:

Even when Blended Learning is a model that has been developed and studied for at least fifteen years, it is still little used in classrooms and schools in Mexico. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought less up the need to implement teaching-learning processes that incorporate online choices. In Mexico's case, the education in all levels was interrupted in the middle of March 2020; professors had to face the challenge to conclude the courses on distance. At Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Dean declared Blended Learning as the choice to follow the teaching-learning processes during this emergency. In that sense, Blended Learning offers, not only an alternative to online learning, but also to incorporate Information and Communication Technologies into Education daily practice.

In this paper it is presented a brief state of the art of Blended learning, concept and main models; as some bibliometric indicators of scientific community interest on the topic. Then a review of university efforts to encourage Blended Learning among a community with thousands of professors and students; and the emergency of training programs from each school to follow courses even with the COVID-19 Pandemic. Finally, it is presented the methodology to develop a Blended Learning session, exemplifying with the Macroeconomy lesson developed for teaching during autumn-winter semester at Engineering Faculty of UNAM.
